課程概述 |
This course is designed to prepare helping professionals to make active and purposeful use of their whole selves in their encounters with clients. Special focus will be on concepts and techniques for using their own life experiences in facilitating therapeutic change. Students are encouraged to develop insight into their own personal life experiences, to realize the implications of these experiences, and to develop skills to intentionally use-of-self into the therapeutic model of their choice. |
課程目標 |
1. To gain knowledge of the use of self in therapy
2. To identify one's “signature themes” (one's personal life struggles, coping mechanisms and patterns of functioning)
3. To describe the evolution of signature themes and their impact on one's personal and professional lives
4. To understand the clinical implications of the use of self
5. To develop and facilitate self-care for helping professionals
6. To reflect on how the course impacts on one personally and professionally |
課程要求 |
1.Punctuality, attendance, and active participation are expected.
2.Students are required to read assigned readings. While reading, please raise at least 2 discussion questions in order to fully engage in the in-class discussion.
3.Leading discussion: Students take turn to lead in-class discussion.

4.“Signature theme” presentation: Introduce your signature theme; locate it in your personal and/or family history and how this could manifest in your clinical work.
5.“The self of the therapist” final paper: Include the following aspects in your final paper: your signature theme, your struggle with your signature theme, your genogram, your family history and your clinical work. The due date of the paper is on December 20. |
